Personal Philosophy- My personal
philosophy about working in a school library, and my vision for what a library
stands for:
I believe there is no
greater outlet than that of a book. Whether it is citing, reading, or writing,
a book can open minds and take those interested on a lifetime of journeys.
My Library's Mission Statement- This
statement wholeheartedly supports the school and district's vision:
As a librarian, my mission is to foster a love of reading, to cherish the
development of lifelong independent learning, to support the curriculum by
providing access to information in all formats, and to promote the
collaboration between all members of the school by providing engaging and
enriching learning experiences. Students will begin to develop the necessary
skills to become responsible digital citizens. The vision of the library is to
be the center of collaboration that will produce inspired students with an
appreciation for literature and critical thinking, as well as, a respect for
others and self.
Educational Philosophy
Statement- Combining both my personal philosophy with my mission for the
library, I created an educational philosophy:
My philosophy of
education is that all learners are treated as unique individuals. They should
all have access to an inspirational and creative educational environment where
they can grow socially, physically, mentally, and emotionally. It is
my goal to create this specific atmosphere where students can be exceptional learners and
experience the best education possible. It is my responsibility to provide a
safe and comfortable environment where students are encouraged to express themselves, share ideas,
and be safe, thoughtful risks-takers.
Every
year, I live by five essential elements I believe are conducive to a productive
and engaging learning environment.
1. The
librarian is more than just a librarian. He/she is an educator, a collaborator,
a listener, a learner, a shoulder to lean on, an expert, a friend, a parent, a
teacher, a counselor, a book-lover, an inspiration, and a source of strength.
2. Students must be equipped with the necessary skills to be critical
thinkers, knowledgeable researchers, enthusiastic readers, and ethical users of
information.
3. All learners,
even those identified as exceptional, must have access to an inclusive learning
environment where they can be seen and heard by providing all learning
preferences.
4. Students
should be encouraged to take control of their own learning by being afforded
the necessary tools, materials, and resources to be successful, and develop the
growth mindset.
5.
Technology must be incorporated into instruction, thus, students require
hands-on digital citizenship training.
